About

We seek to unleash the agency and purpose of every learner by connecting them with the knowledge of what is working.

Education in the 21st century is about learning how to identify, analyze and solve problems. The world is full of people and institutions working to advance change. Yet, these emerging ideas can be difficult to find...until now.

SolutionsU® is possible because of the spread of solutions journalism: rigorous reporting on responses to social problems. Our parent organization Solutions Journalism Network seeks to rebalance the news, so that every day people are exposed to stories that help them understand problems and challenges, and stories that show potential ways to respond. SO WHAT?

  1. You no longer have to navigate a fragmented and rapidly growing sea of information. SolutionsU® identifies, vets, and tags high-quality solutions stories in one searchable database. To be included in our growing database of 3,400+ stories, each story must possess the 4 elements of solutions journalism.
  2. You can access stories about a diverse group of leaders and changemakers. SolutionsU® features stories about social innovation produced by 1,400+ journalists from 530+ news outlets, featuring 125+ countries, and growing every day. The stories cover a wide variety of people, communities, and institutions working to advance change around the globe.
  3. You can find stories showing the real struggles in social innovation, and how social entrepreneurs try to overcome them - along with evidence of success and failure. Solutions journalism stories are grounded in a local response, but often includes a broader teachable lesson. They go beyond inspiration to provide evidence and valuable insights about how social change really works. Most solutions journalism stories also address shortcomings and challenges to the response.
  4. You get teaching resources at no cost. In collaboration with our growing community of educators, SolutionsU® gathers and develops teaching materials built on solutions journalism stories. From story collections and assignments, to syllabi and how-to guides, these resources are here for you to adopt, contribute to, and develop further.
